A small local museum in Kyoto will be displaying maki-e.
Located next to the Hosomi Museum of Art in the city's Okazaki area, the Zohiko Urushi Museum is a 10-minute walk from Exit 2 of the Higashiyama subway station. (Scroll down.)
“The Art of Maki-e: Japan Traditional Craft” will run from March 1-31.
Maki-e is a traditional Japanese craft in which lacquer is sprinkled with gold or silver powder.
The art form was developed mainly in the Heian Period (794–1185) and really took off in the Edo Period (1603–1868).
Very beautiful work is on display.
