In Okazaki, Kyoto, are several museums, a massive torii gate, and Heian Shrine.

It is a 10-minute ride or so from downtown Kyoto.

A bit farther east are Nanzenji Temple and the Philosophers Walk.

A perfect excursion.

This Kyoto cycling route takes in Okazaki, which is where many of the city's museums are located.

The area also is home to Heian Shrine and is close to other temples such as Nanzenji.

Kyoto Okazaki Cherry Viewing Boat Tours

Canal In Okazaki, Kyoto京都岡崎疎水花見舟

Though the cherry trees are losing their pink blossoms, it is possible until May 8 to take a boat tour to view the trees in the Okazaki area of Kyoto.

Boats depart every 15 minutes and circle the canal passing two of the city's great museums and the zoo.

The boats depart from near Nanzenji Temple in front of Biwako Sosui Memorial Museum.

Every day there are 29 boat tours that run between 9:30 and 16:30
