Hiragiya Ryokan Kyoto

HIragiya Kyoto柊家旅館

Someday, some way.

Hiragiya Ryokan (inn) is one of the classic Japanese inns in Kyoto.

It was founded in 1818 and features Japanese-style rooms, most of which have a garden view.

The rooms come with Japanese wood baths made of aromatic fir.

Rates start at 32,000 per person per night based on double occupancy.

That includes dinner, breakfast, and service charges.

The odd photo was taken from Oike Dori, facing south towards the wall of the Main Facility.

Beautiful Kyoto Ryokan Inn Entrance

Traditional Ryokan Kyoto京都旅館の入り口

Behold the entrance to an inn most can only dream of entering.

From the subtle lighting to the wet pavement - it had not rained for weeks on the day this photo was taken - the scene creates a perfect tableau.

Within men in hanten and women in kimono are waiting.

Multi-course meals, a luxurious Japanese bath, and thick futons await.

Rooms start at around 50,000 yen ($550).

Japanese Inn Kiyamachi Kyoto

Kiyamachi Inn木屋町旅館

While cycling up Kiyamachi the other day, we came upon this amazing Japanese inn.

Multi-storied, with eaves and soffits everywhere you look - it appears like something from a Hayao Miyazaki animated film.

However, it is real indeed.

The inn is located on the Kamo River side of Kiyamachi, just north of Gojo Dori.

This area has seen its fortunes improve in recent years. Restaurants have opened, and the brothels that have opened north of Shijo have not spread south to this area.
