Japanese Woman Cycling Near Kayaba Cafe Ueno Tokyo

Beautiful Woman on Bike Tokyo東京上野でサイクリングを楽しむ美人

A block northeast of Ueno Park just beyond Tokyo University of the Arts is a wonderful cafe.

Kayaba Cafe is an old pile of a building that now serves as a tea shop. It would hold its own among Kyoto's best machiya cafes.

In front of the cafe is a lovely arts (?) student on her green and black bike.

The bright green of the bike is offset by her faded jeans, white sweater, pink shoe straps, hennaed hair, and brown bag thrown over the handlebars.

Her hair and bag coordinate nicely, and bookend the rest of the montage.

Following a coffee at Kayaba, heading farther into the neighborhood - away from Ueno Park - is also a treat.

The Sendagi and Yanaka neighborhoods look and feel like much of Kyoto. They are dotted with temples, have old shopping streets, and a large famous graveyard.

Japanese Woman Straddling Bicycle in Kyoto

Japanese Woman Bicycle Kyoto京都JR花園駅近く自転車を股がる女

Near JR Hanazono Station, in western Kyoto, a young woman straddles her bike.

She has just been to a convenience store - her chips are visible in the plastic bag hanging from the handle bars - and is on her way.

In her blue jean shorts, black leather books, black winter coat with fake fur lining around the hood, she cuts a fine figure.

When the light changed she pedaled off, continuing her texting with one hand, steering with the other.

Note: this corner is not far from the Toei Kyoto Studio Park.

Woman Riding Bicycle Kyoto

Woman Cyclist Kyoto自転車乗っている京女

Near the campus of Doshisha University and the Imperial Palace, a young woman waits for the light to change.

She is on a sporty aquamarine cross bike. It is outfitted with yellow tires, a trad leather seat, and rubber handle grips.

The look is made complete by her quirky fashion sense.

She has on a multi-colored polka-dotted dress, and light gray tights.

Ah, the joys of autumn.

Japanese Woman on Bicycle Kyoto

Kyoto woman cycling京都で自転車乗る京女

At the corner of Kawaramachi - Oike, just across from Kyoto City Hall, a woman sits astride her all-purpose mama-chari bicycle.

And what a montage she has created!

Her dark blue jeans and lime green top make for a delicious contrast with her candy apple red bike.

The bags in her basket - black and green - match the trim of her tires, socks, and shirt.

Her hair clip has the faintest touch of amber, which nestles in the sea of luxuriant black hair.

Moreover, the angle of her legs - a scalene triangle with differing angles - and arms outstretched are begging to be sketched.

Osaka Woman Little Bo Peep

Osaka Woman大阪のロリコン

While leaving a high-end macaroon joint in the Mitsukoshi Department store in Osaka Station last weekend, we spied Little Bo Peep times two.

Except for the shepherd's crook, the two are spot on replicas of Little Bo Peep.

They busied themselves with their clothing, checking and rechecking their frills.

The look is called "Lolicon," which is short for a Lolita Complex.

And we are speechless.

Nape of Woman's Neck Arashiyama Kyoto

Nape of woman in kimono京都嵐山着物項

To the Western male, the nape of the neck does not rank high on the potential delights of the female body.

To Japanese men, it is a highly erotic area.

This is perhaps due to the fact that in the past it was one of very few parts of the body left uncovered.

Geisha continue to exploit this fascination, wearing the collar of their kimono low to expose the nape, which is painted in dramatic fashion in white.

The nape moreover has been depicted in many works of art. "Shaving the Nape of the Neck" is a well known work by painter Utamaro. In the manga series "Kimi no Unaji ni Kanpai!" ("Cheers for the Nape of your Neck!") the main character instantly falls in love when he spies a woman's nape (and only with the nape, not with the woman!). In Yukio Mishima's novel Forbidden Colours, the nape of young man is noted by the (gay) author.

The woman pictured here was at a ceremony in Arashiyama to celebrate her daughter's twelfth birthday.
