Cycling From Kyoto Station to Tofukuji Temple

Tofukuji Temple自転車で京都駅~東寺~東福寺へ

日本語ご希望の方

A cold front has moved into Kyoto and western Japan. This makes cycling early in the morning and late a night a bit chilly.

However, midday is glorious.

For those who have just arrived, a great ride in Kyoto is from Kyoto Station to Toji Temple and then on to Tofukuji Temple.

Toji Temple is a short ride south of the mega-station building. From there it is about 15 minutes through industrial south Kyoto to some of the most beautiful fall colors you will ever see.

Ride South Kyoto ride.

Tofukuji Temple自転車で京都駅~東寺~東福寺へ

日本語ご希望の方

This Kyoto cycling moves from Kyoto Station south to Toji Temple (below) and then on to Tofukuji Temple (at right).

It takes in two fabulous temples, and wends its way through Japan's oldest slum, south Kyoto. (Not to worry, it is not dangerous at all.)

For more information, here is a page on cycling to Toji and Tofukuji.

Tofukuji Temple is a huge Zen temple in southeastern Kyoto.

It was founded in 1236 and has become one of the principal Zen temples in Kyoto.

Moreover, much of the temple complex is free.

For those cycling, it is 15 minutes from Kyoto Station or 10 minutes from Sanjusangendo. It is along the narrow road that leads south to Fushimi.
