Tiny Foldable Bicycle in Cocon Karasuma

Tiny Bicycle Kyoto京都古今にある折りたたみ自転車

Just south of Shijo - Karasuma is the sleek urban mall with the clunky name Cocon Karasuma.

"Cocon" is a direct transliteration of 古今. The first kanji means "old," the second "now."

The mall consists of several floors of shops and galleries, bars and restaurants. On the third floor is the Kyoto Cinema, which shows arty films from around the world.

In the back of the first floor, a foldable bike was strategically placed in the ACTUS store's show window.

We are not sure if it was for sale or merely decorative.

Very Small Funky Kyoto Bicycle

Small Funky Bike Kyoto小さくてお洒落な京都自転車

Around the corner from Kyoto Daimaru department store - and more or less at the entrance to Nishiki food market - was this tiny bicycle.

We believe it is a folding bike.

We also believe it is ridable, and not merely an ornament placed in front of the boutique.

Check out the kickstand, which must have been manufactured in Lilliput.

Kyoto Funky Foldable Bike

foldable-bike京都折り畳み自転車

On the street that follows the JR Saiin Line from Nijo to Enmachi, there is a beauty college.

Young women and men learn the arts of cutting, dyeing, and making a client feel beautiful.

Many of the students commute via bike, and park in a lot under the train tracks.

There were several foldable bikes line up.

The outside bike, pictured above, was pretty zippy: two-toned leather seat, chrome rims, bright white frame.
