En route to the Keihan Railways Demachiyanagi Station yesterday, we paused along a bridge crossing the Kamo River to enjoy the snow covered mountains in the north.
It was ball-numbingly cold on the ride from western Kyoto but Santa's early arrival saved the day.
The new "lobster" gloves were toasty, even without putting on the usual liners we wear with ordinary gloves on the 30-minute commute. A bit bulky - and shifting will take some getting used to - but the fingertips were warm and happy.
Moreover, thanks to a new pair of high-tech socks from Pearl Izumi, the toes were equally warm.
A true Christmas miracle.
The mountains in the distance are heading up towards Kumogahata, which was no doubt covered in snow. More central parts of Kyoto rarely see accumulation or ice on the roads, so cycling all winter is doable.
