This week's cycling route takes us over to the Higashiyama eastern hills of the city.
Kiyomizu ranks with the Golden Pavilion at the top of must see sites.
The World Heritage Site was established in 798 C.E.. The main hall, supported by massive pillars, juts out over the edge of the hills
Nearby are the narrow, beautiful slopes called Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka.
They are filled with quaint shops in Japanese style buildings.
To the north is Nene no Michi. Nene no Michi (The Path of Nene) is one of the most beautiful street in Kyoto.
On the north side of Nene no Michi is Kodaiji Temple, which was established in 1605 by Nene, the wife of the late Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
From there it is on to Maruyama Park and Chionin Temple. The former is a park that abuts Gion, the latter was founded by Honen in 1294.
A great, great ride and day.
Ride, Kiyomizu, ride.
