Cycling Book Review THE SECRET RACE Inside the Hidden World of the Tour de France

secret-race書評「The Secret Race」

The Secret Race is a timely read for cycling fans and those with a more general interest in sport.

Lance Armstrong gave up on his fight against doping charges recently.

Tyler Hamilton, an Olympic gold medalist and one-time teammate of Mr. Armstrong, is the author and confessed drug cheat.

“The Secret Race” continues with the confession.

Co-written with Daniel Coyle "The Secret Race" is a well-written overview on the issue and problem of drugs in cycling.

Prior to his admission of doping, Mr. Hamilton was legendary for his to endure pain and keep riding. In 2002 he crashed at the start of the three-week Giro d’Italia fracturing his shoulder.

After finishing second Hamilton had 11 teeth recapped.

However, a long streak of disappointing race results, Hamilton took his first “red egg,” a capsule of powerful testosterone. It was provided by his racing team. This was followed by syringes filled with powerful EPO.

A great if disappointing read.
